The wheel of the year is turning and the seasonal shift of Summer to Autumn is just around the corner. In the early morning hours of today, I began to see this shift as a threshold. We don’t jump from one to another, we cross into the next phase. Autumn doesn’t push upon us, it gracefully makes its way in as a period of transition. The leaves begin to change and the trees begin to let go. Nature begins to gradually prepare for deep rest.
What is a threshold?
Spiritually, a threshold is a liminal space marking a point of transition, transformation and even testing. It’s neither here nor there, but a pause of what was to what is next. It is a boundary where something ended and something began. Often, a threshold is a place of uncertainty as what comes next is unknown. This space is sacred. It allows a pause for intention to prepare for the direction one chooses to take.
The equinox brings us the balance of light and dark, a sacred moment of equilibrium. One does not overshadow the other, instead they meet each other in this sacred dance. This moment occurs without judgment, without force. It blends and almost feels as if time stops for the union of opposites. This sacred moment of stillness rebalances us, preparing us for the descent into the second half of the year—the inner world, a season of reflection, release, and deeper connection with ourselves..
Our life mimics nature and her cycles. We begin to awaken, fully bloom, shed the bloom and move into deep rest. As we approach autumn, what do you feel within? Is there a stir in the depths of something that is ready to be shed? How can you move with intention — body, mind and spirit, as you prepare to transition? I feel deeply called to notice this transition and I’m asking myself what needs to change before the next threshold approaches.
How will you cross the threshold from Summer to Autumn? Remember, the crossing belongs to you. No one can choose for you, no one can push you through it, it is yours to decide and that is truly sacred.
May you find wisdom in this sacred transition.
Until next time…
M
